Job Summary
Perform technical work to install and maintain computer equipment, network, and software applications throughout the ESC and regional school districts. Respond to ESC staff and school district requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor's degree preferred and/or comparable experience
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications
Ability to install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals
Ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to operate and troubleshoot distance learning endpoint equipment, as well as distance learning bridges
Ability to detect, analyze, and solve technical problems
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience Required
Experience with a variety of computer software applications and technologies
Major Job Responsibilities
1. Assist department members and ESC staff with installation of software and technical assistance.
2. Provide computer software assistance, including program update to member districts.
3. Assist in coordination of PEIMS & ECDS data collections as required by the Texas Education Agency.
4. Monitor data security and backup procedures to ensure integrity of databases.
5. Provide training on computer systems and software.
6. Provide technical assistance to districts for specific needs or projects in the are of instructional technology.
7. Install and configure instructional software as needed.
8. Diagnose and repair equipment, including printers, terminals, and personal computers.
9. Communicate and work with software and hardware vendors to resolve end-user problems.
10. Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and equipment.
11. Install network cabling and network peripherals and upgrade computers and peripherals throughout the ESC and school districts as requested.
12. Assist with installation and testing of network hardware, software, and upgrades, and identify and resolve issues.
13. Implement and maintain all system configurations, and ensure that the system maintenance is performed.
14. Monitor and analyze utilization; recommend improvements as needed.
15. Develop and oversee implementation and maintenance of security for assigned systems and networks.
16. Develop and implement backup procedures to ensure that assigned network and workstation backups are performed on a regular basis and district data is restored as needed.
17. Assist with the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.
18. Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support.
19. Develop and maintain network design and configuration documentation.
20. Consult with end users to identify the need, analyze system specifications, and correct related problems.
21. Identify and recommend the acquisition of software and hardware to meet the networking needs for assigned areas.
22. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
23. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
24. Maintain Region 9s network LAN and WAN servers including security, backup, and CIPA compliant content filter.
25. Maintain and prepare technology training labs.
26. Provide technical assistance related to distance learning.
27. Provide professional development and technical assistance through face-to-face and/or remote technology, as necessary.
Minor Job Responsibilities
1. Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.
2. Respond to after hour emergencies as needed.
3. Coordinate with other ESC Departments/Services.
4. Assist with any assigned tasks deemed necessary for the function of the ESC or assistance to clients.
