Description
The Village of Glendale Heights (pop. 33,176) seeks an energetic, experienced professional for the Deputy Director position in the Public Works Department. Glendale Heights is a diverse community comprised of (6) Districts, covering approximately (6) square miles in DuPage County.
The Deputy Director of Public Works will support the Director with varied assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment in making technical and managerial decisions of considerable consequences. The Deputy Director will provide organizational direction and leadership to 44 staff through department supervisors.
Duties of the position include assisting the Director with complex supervisory, administrative and professional work in planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the work of Utilities, Streets & Fleets, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Engineering and other public works projects and programs. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Director with preparation and oversight of contractual, maintenance, and construction projects; and the preparation of various documents, presentations, and reports. The Deputy Director will perform the duties of Director in his absence.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will bring:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in engineering and/or public works management; and
Six to eight years progressive municipal public works and/or engineering management experience.
Combination or of education and experience;
Proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders;
Must have solid knowledge of Public Works and/or Engineering best practices, laws, ordinances, and statues that apply, and proficiency with MS office, accounting and work order systems.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $143,998.40 to $160,992 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
