Primary Job Function:
The Reynoldsburg City Schools Coordinator of Language Acquisition will provide leadership and expertise in the development and implementation of high – quality instruction for all English language learners. The Coordinator will continually work for improved educational outcomes for diverse learners and be a champion for equity and a culturally responsive change agent who advocates for the needs of a culturally and linguistically diverse community of students, families and educators.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree valid Teacher Certification
Five (5) years’ of successful teaching experience working with English Learners
Valid Principal license
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (License or Endorsement)
Master’s degree
Valid Education Specialist or Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent’s license from the State of Ohio or in process of obtaining
Successful experience in practices which improve implementation of strategies and best practices for English Learners
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills abilities, and other characteristics. Leadership
Responsible for researching and developing new programs that support English Language Learners and align with RCS mission and vision.
Responsible for assisting the Director with coordinating the development and implementation of programs that meet the needs of English Learners
Responsible for the oversight EL and migrant programs
Responsible for working collaboratively with district and building leaders to implement strategies in the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plans to support improved outcomes for EL students.
Responsible for ensuring that all EL programming, policies and procedures are in compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.
Plan and manage Title III budget.
Provide input in the identification and allocation of resources to meet the needs of EL students.
Responsible for accurate and timely data reporting to EMIS
Responsible for supporting RCS’ English Learner services. This includes but is not limited to:
Staff Support
Student support
Responsible for attending meetings, conferences and professional development opportunities to remain apprised of latest developments and innovations in the field.
Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring an identification process for EL students.
Responsible for managing the administration of English Proficiency assessments.
Communication and Support
Responsible for serving as liaison with the Ohio Department of Education’s Office for Language Development and English Language Learners
Responsible for staying up to date and knowledgeable regarding all community resources and communicating those to the appropriate entities.
Responsible for serving as a liaison with the Ohio Department Education’s Lau Resource Center regarding policies and procedures related to EL education
Responsible for collaborating with interdisciplinary team (building administrators, department staff, District leadership, stakeholders, etc.) to determine appropriate services, placement and supports
Responsible for providing crisis management support in the area of EL
Responsible for providing and directs ongoing professional development to staff
Responsible for completing state and federal reports in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsible for assisting with support of translation and interpretation services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of legal issues and requirement related to English Learners
Knowledge of EL programs and services
Knowledge of federal and state laws related to exceptional student education, 504, and the SST process.
Adept with interpreting data and presenting information to a variety of audiences.
Knowledge of school social work practice ethical issues and standards.
Knowledge of child development, psychopathology, social and environmental conditioning, cultural diversity and family systems
Skilled in effective listening and communication
Skilled at presenting information professionally, concisely, and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Skilled at providing sound judgment
Skilled at attending to detail and the highest level.
Skills in organization, time management, task prioritization and recordkeeping • Ability to plan, organize, and oversee assigned work programs, including monitoring work schedules and work performance
Ability to understand the integration of special needs students into a school setting
Ability to work well under pressure and use sound judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters
Ability to provide guidance and direction to staff and promote a team environment
Ability to facilitate and promote conflict resolution
Ability to interact positively and effectively with, students, staff, and administrators
Ability to use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
Driving Requirement – This position may require driving.
