Description

In this highly visible role, the Continuous Improvement Engineering Manager will drive Automation, Design, and Manufacturing Engineering, and Maintenance, including daily production support and project implementations.

This leader manages facilities, people and systems to ensure manufacturing processes are documented, deployed, and maintained. Emphasis on supporting and driving safety, operations, quality, cost, continuous improvement and reliability in equipment and process throughout all US facilities is key to success in this role. This is a “working manager” position and requires substantial time on the plant floor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads, develops and builds out the Engineering and Maintenance teams for US locations.

Identifies and implements manufacturing process changes in support of continuous improvement and productivity improvement objectives.

Support and execute Lean Manufacturing efforts, i.e., develop SOP, TWI, and standard work for machine and process controls, RIE actions, 5S methodologies.

Supports resolution of day-to-day production issues that put service delivery at risk.

Provides technical assistance to all production departments regarding the quality and/or performance of machinery, tooling, fixtures, gauges, etc.

Assists with engineering analyses including but not limited to manufacturing simulations of new processes, make or buy, outsourcing, and line balancing.

Performs root cause analyses to determine causes of line defects and engages the appropriate organization to drive improvement in line yields.

Successfully completes assigned engineering projects to achieve goals (machine optimization, productivity, cost-out, etc.).

Maintains records and files of all completed engineering work.

Determines the accuracy of drawings and initiates corrections when discrepancies are found.

Reviews, recommends, and writes specifications and procedures for all equipment, processes, and facilities in the areas of responsibility to hand off equipment to production.

Researches and initiates purchase requisitions for materials, spare parts, equipment, and services.

Trains direct team and other employees in specific procedures, methods, and operations regarding processes, facilities, and equipment as needed.

Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace. This includes ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations.

Develops and reports on key metrics that provide the Senior Leadership Team with a solid understanding and status of key initiatives and outcomes of various CI projects and programs.

Monitors and adheres to established budget.

Leads development and design of enhancements and modifications to existing processes and manufacturing equipment.

Strives to continuously improve processes to achieve optimal efficiency for manufacturing operations.

Serve as liaison to Production and Quality by developing engineering change notices (ECNs) and process specifications pertaining to manufacturing processes and material specifications.

Supports all other business goals as needed to meet company objectives.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial).

5+ years’ experience with responsibility for manufacturing/ production process development or support, and leadership experience in a production environment.

Experience working in a high volume 24/7 production environment.

2+ years demonstrated lean problem-solving and continuous improvement experience.

Healthcare or healthcare manufacturing experience is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to work collaboratively across groups and can negotiate and distill requirements down to their basic elements.

Able to supervise, guide, coach and lead teams effectively across multiple sites and different shifts.

Must be willing to demonstrate a high level of initiative, effectiveness, independence, and creativity in resolving situations and meeting goals.

Must be an adept and experienced problem solver who is able to determine root cause of technical issues and implements effective solutions in a timely manner.

Knowledge of machine automation, chemical process, and electrical machine trouble shooting.

Able to effectively manage competing priorities based on rapidly evolving business and employee needs.

Must be available to respond to urgent situations, including working beyond scheduled hours (evenings and weekends as needed).

Able to travel approximately 15-20% of the time to other locations.
