PLC Programmer – Smart Manufacturing & Automation

Location: Buffalo, NY

Project: GM – Comau Smart Cell

An opportunity is available for an experienced PLC Programmer to contribute to a high-impact project within the Comau Smart Cell environment. The role is centered around the development, configuration, and troubleshooting of automation systems using Siemens PLCs, specifically Siemens Step 7 and Siemens 84D platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, program, and implement Siemens Step 7 and Siemens 84D logic for smart automation cells.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver fully integrated Smart Cell control systems in a manufacturing automation environment.

Develop and test PLC code, ensuring optimal machine functionality and safety compliance.

Perform PLC troubleshooting, debugging, and optimization throughout the project lifecycle.

Assist in the commissioning of automated systems and support post-installation modifications or improvements.

Required Skills and Experience:

Proficiency in Siemens Step 7 programming and logic development.

Hands-on experience with Siemens 84D for motion and control applications.

Familiarity with industrial automation systems, especially within a Smart Cell manufacturing context.

Strong understanding of PLC diagnostics, I/O configuration, and system integration.

Experience working with GM standards or in automotive automation projects is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or automation technology.

Solid grasp of machine safety standards, robotic integration, and HMI interfaces.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and function block diagrams.
