Job Overview
The Process Engineer will work closely with senior engineers, project managers, and ESI’s O&M teams in support of the company’s ongoing biogas utilization projects. The position requires implementing sound engineering principles to ensure project designs are at the industry’s cutting edge. An ability to work independently, self-motivate, and communicate effectively with team members is of the utmost importance to this position. ESI values both continuous improvement and feedback from its employees. Consequently, the Process Engineer will be expected to provide feedback to department leadership on ways that processes and designs can be optimized.
Reports To
The Process Engineer will report to the Lead Process Engineer.
Work Location
This is a hybrid role based in Sisters, OR (Headquarters) or Denver, CO (Satellite Office). This could be a fully remote opportunity for a well-qualified candidate.
Responsibilities and Duties
Prepare engineering drawings for permitting, estimating, bidding and construction.
Prepare and review of Project Design Basis, Block Flow Diagrams, (BFDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), equipment specifications, data sheets, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). Develop control philosophies and cause and effect charts.
Participate in project HAZOP studies.
Perform and review calculations, including, but not limited to, material and energy balances; valve, tank and vessel sizing; heat exchanger, pump and compressor sizing; piping, control and relief valve sizing.
Support the review and response to contractor RFIs.
Support ESI’s Operations Division with process troubleshooting and optimization.
Interact with other engineering disciplines and departments throughout the company.
Demonstrate working knowledge of ASME piping and pressure vessel codes, API, ASTM, and other industry standards.
Use advanced knowledge and specialized training in the performance of thermodynamic, chemical, and physical analysis to develop systems and unit operations in accordance with contractual obligations and relevant codes and standards. Prepare specifications and technical reports.
Solve problems by applying standards, procedures, best practices, and following detailed instructions. Also, use initiative and judgment to resolve problems, interpret engineering specifications, and investigate design and field engineering difficulties.
Seek ways to improve and promote quality, demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness in all work.
Provide assistance to and mentoring of junior Process and Mechanical Engineers.
Other duties as assigned.
Travel
Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%.
Minimum Qualifications
This is a mid-senior level position requiring 4+ years of engineering experience.
Bachelor’s degree in chemical or petroleum engineering from an accredited university.
Valid driver’s license for state of residence.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in some of or all the following industries: Renewable Energy; Gas Processing; Chemical; Power; Waste Management; Environmental Air Quality Control Systems.
PE or FE certification or ability to obtain certification.
Proficiency with chemical process simulation software. (BR&E Promax or others)
Proficiency in Smartsheet or other project management software.
Ideal Candidate

Ability to deal with complex problems and present recommendations and findings in a clear, concise format; ability to interact effectively at all levels within and outside of ESI. Ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and clients. Ability to communicate effectively across a broad range of audiences including management, technical/engineering support, and field personnel.
Quick learner who adapts well to a fast-moving environment and gets things done, combines creativity, problem-solving skills, and a can-do attitude to overcome any obstacle.
Highly motivated and willing to take on multiple responsibilities at once; strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in an environment with changing priorities.
Advanced optimization, trouble shooting, and/or process design skills in a process simulation package.
Experience in process optimization, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis (RCA) in an energy or manufacturing environment.
Experience with process metrics and reporting key performance indicators (KPI).

Salary Range
For candidates with 4-10 years of experience, the range is $110,000 to $155,000 per year.
