Senior Electrical Engineer

Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a passion for modernizing and upgrading complex facilities? Were seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team driving the design and construction of state-of-the-art research environments.

About the Opportunity:

Youll play a key role in supporting research initiatives that drive the mission of the U.S. Department of Energys Office of Science. Your contributions will help enable discoveries in nuclear and particle physics, energy and climate sciences, quantum information science, artificial intelligence, and national security.

As Senior Electrical Engineer, youll support and lead electrical engineering tasks for a variety of modernization and construction projects, ensuring the safe, efficient, and code-compliant design and implementation of electrical systems within a world-class research campus.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform calculations to validate electrical loads, coordinate overcurrent protection, and size equipment to comply with NEC and other standards.

Design and layout electrical equipment, including switchboards, switchgears, motor control centers, panel boards, disconnect switches, and more.

Analyze complex engineering problems and develop effective, timely solutions while managing multiple projects.

Develop design documents, specifications, detailed risers, and construction bid documents.

Prepare and review cost estimates and contracts for electrical projects.

Support construction activities, including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and field modifications.

Conduct site visits to identify and resolve issues during all project phases.

Manage project scope, budgets, and milestones; ensure accurate procedural documentation.

Mentor junior engineers and review designs for efficiency, code compliance, and adherence to standards.

Collaborate with project managers and external consultants to ensure project success.

What Were Looking For:

Bachelors degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.

Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in electrical systems design for commercial/institutional buildings.

Broad knowledge of building electrical systems: grounding, lighting, fire alarms, and controls.

Detailed knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC/NFPA 70) and related standards.

Experience preparing specifications and installation documents for power distribution equipment.

Proficiency in load calculations, arc flash mitigation, short-circuit analysis, and other essential electrical calculations.

Experience developing construction bid documents and detailed design drawings.

Strong teamwork, communication, and customer service skills.

Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office suite.

Valid NYS drivers license.

Fully onsite position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree (Masters in Electrical Engineering or related field).

PMP certification.

Proficiency in Revit and industry software (e.g., SKM, Lumen).

Knowledge of medium voltage distribution and low voltage design (telecom, security, AV).

Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York State.

Salary range: $106,650 $181,783 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Occasional domestic travel may be required.
