PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As a Director you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for a dedicated team of professional railroaders, responsible for ensuring activities are performed safely and in compliance with regulatory and business standards. The ideal candidate builds a safety focused culture, communicates effectively, set expectations and drives accountability.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Ensure all train servicing, repairs, and planned program work and are in compliance with CPKC’s standards, Association of American Railroads (AAR) standards, and Transport Canada (TC), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations to ensure a safe and reliable product is sustainably and reliably delivered for the Operations

Accountable for implementation of improvement strategies and recommendations to improve productivity and effectiveness of the operation

Accountable for leading mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction, safely handle and efficiently restore service with minimum loss and damage to equipment and assist Train & Engine Operations/Engineering partners

Accountable for maintaining the territories mechanical operating budget

Accountable for the career development and succession planning for employees

Be available 24/7 to provide oversight and direction for all safety, operational, regional issues and be able to provide feedback to all internal and external customers as required

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or general equivalency, university degree is preferred

Minimum 5 years’ of railway maintenance experience or strong heavy industry maintenance based knowledge

Proven capabilities in driving and implementing cultural change

Ability to provide pinpointed positive and constructive feedback and apply balanced consequences

Ability to drill down, understand root cause and resolve complex issues

Experience in a unionized environment is necessary

Ability to travel to all locations required in the territory

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
