SPEECH/LANGUAGE ASSISTANT
Contract Period: Academic-year position, 186 days per year, non-exempt, hourly
Supervisor: Associate Dean of Academics-Special Education Director
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree; Licensed as a Speech/Language Assistant; Specific knowledge in articulation, language, fluency, oral motor therapy, and sign language. Strong communication skills; high degree of confidentiality.
DUTIES (Under the supervision of the Speech Language Pathologists):
Adapts educational materials and equipment to provide intervention and meet the individual student’s needs.
Assists with finding or creating therapeutic materials to be used by speech students in the therapy or classroom settings.
Assists with collecting data on student achievements to assist speech therapists with documenting activities, preparing reports, and updating IEPs.
Consults with speech therapists and teachers to assist in gathering data.
Implements instructions developed by speech therapists to implement goals for remediation of speech and language deficits.
Attends and participates in supervision sessions.
Supports speech therapists’ schedules by conducting makeup sessions or covering sessions as needed.
Maintains and prepares a wide variety of manual and electronic materials (e.g., charts, logs, records, and reports) to document activities, provide written reference, convey information, and comply with mandated requirements.
Sends passes to students, Case Coordinators, etc. via email, Remind, etc.
Assists speech therapists with the maintenance of augmentative communication devices and equipment to ensure the availability of required tools.
Assist with planning speech meetings as well as creating the agenda and submitting hours to Frontline.
