THE POSITION
Under general supervision the Enginering Aide assists with daily tasks such as:
drafting assignments related to the City's infrastructure system
issuing right-of-way permits
assists the public at the counter
prepares and maintains engineering records
review plans for compliance with ordinances and standards
provides mapping, survey, construction and cost information to the public improvement projects
responds to inquiries regarding public works projects
and perform other duties as required.This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position that may work up to 20 hours per week. This position is split between working in the office 85% of the time with the other 15% spent conducting field survey work with an Associate Engineer.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Education
High school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by any combination of training and experience necessary for the position.
A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is:
courses in drafting plus one year of experience in engineering drafting or field survey work; or
completion of two years in an accredited college with a specialization in engineering.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's license.
Knowledge of:
Basic principles and practices of mapping, drafting, hydraulics and schematics; preparation of construction plans; public works construction methods and inspection techniques; and field survey methods and equipment.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to research and conduct a variety of studies and projects in the area of drafting; learn and apply drafting principles and practices; collect, analyze and summarize data; prepare maps, charts and illustrations; effective oral and written communication skills; prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; follow oral and written instructions; work cooperatively and effectively with employees and the public.
