GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

A semi-skilled position responsible for the operation of light construction equipment as well as maintenance equipment in the Solid Waste Operation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following statements describe the principal functions of the job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive fist of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned.

• Operates mowers, trimmers, compressors, pumping machinery, and saws.

• Operates all-terrain vehicles, bobcat type loaders, trucks, and other machines as necessary.

• May be required to operate heavier equipment on a temporary or emergency basis.

• Washes, cleans and preforms routine maintenance on equipment.

• Preforms manual labor as assigned.

• Inspects loads that customers bring in to ensure proper disposal.

• Advises the public of any restricted items not allowed at the Household Hazardous Waste site.

• Ensures the proper disposal of items brought in by the public.

• Keeps a log of the amounts of materials brought in.

• Coordinates, schedules, and prepares manifests needed for Household Hazardous Waste materials to be picked up by approved vendors.

• Maintains a professional, safe, clean, and organized working environment at all times.

• Follows consistently the policies and procedures set by the board.

• Responds productively to change and preforms all related tasks as directed.

• Furnishes daily reports of activities and submits them to the Landfill manager for submittal to D.E.P.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Basic understanding of Household Hazardous Waste, E-waste, oil-based paints, latex paints, as well as different fuels.

• Understanding the occupational hazards and how to properly handle HHW & E-waste.

• Basic knowledge of the government rules and regulations pertaining to the disposal of HHW.

• Ability to obtain any other training as directed by management.

• Knowledge in the safe operation, maintenance and use of light equipment.

• Basic knowledge in construction equipment.

• Ability to operate equipment over rough terrain.

• Ability to perform manual laboring tasks under adverse weather conditions.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 10% of the time. Frequently operates various types of equipment to include but not limited to hand and power tools. Frequently communicates with the public and co-workers effectively. Must be able to exchange accurate information in different situations. Occasionally moves materials and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Frequently works outdoors. Frequently operates a motor vehicle and or equipment for up to (4) hours continuously or intermittently. Frequently positions self to work around various items to perform maintenance tasks. Occasionally works in rugged, steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. Some positions require physical exertions such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Frequent exposure to moderately high noise levels.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment. Must complete and pass training as assigned.
