Position Summary
The Safety & Security Manager will lead all aspects of workplace safety and physical security at our fast-paced pharmacy fulfillment warehouse. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with OSHA, DEA, FDA, and state pharmacy board regulations, while fostering a proactive culture of safety, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation.
You will oversee safety programs, lead incident investigations, manage physical security infrastructure, and serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections and audits. This position requires someone experienced in both safety compliance and security protocols specific to pharmaceutical distribution environments.
Key Responsibilities
Workplace Safety
Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in line with OSHA and internal standards.
Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency drills.
Investigate workplace incidents and near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed.
Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and oversee proper handling and labeling of hazardous materials.
Lead safety trainings for employees (PPE, material handling, emergency response, incident reporting, etc.).
Security Management
Oversee physical security systems: access control, CCTV, alarm systems, and perimeter surveillance.
Develop and maintain site security protocols to protect pharmaceutical inventory, especially controlled substances.
Collaborate with internal compliance teams and external agencies (DEA, FDA, State Boards) to meet regulatory security requirements.
Investigate and respond to security breaches, theft, or diversion risks.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure full compliance with DEA, OSHA, and state pharmacy regulations.
Support and prepare for regulatory inspections, internal audits, and external investigations.
Maintain proper documentation and reporting procedures related to safety and security.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Act as the primary contact for all safety and security matters across departments.
Lead or contribute to internal safety committees or continuous improvement teams.
Build strong relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency services.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Criminal Justice, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
3+ years in a safety or security leadership role, preferably in pharmaceutical, logistics, or regulated environments.
Strong working knowledge of:
OSHA, DEA, and pharmaceutical security regulations
Access control systems, video surveillance, and incident reporting tools
Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.
Able to manage sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Certifications:
OSHA 30-hour General Industry
CPP, CHSP, CPhT, or related credentials
Working Conditions
On-site at our Columbus, OH warehouse; may require occasional travel to other facilities.
Frequent walking and inspections on the warehouse floor.
Flexibility to respond to incidents outside normal working hours, if needed.
