GRANT FUNDED POSITION
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision and in accordance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations of the State Board of Education, serve as a licensed mental health professional. In conjunction with the counseling leadership, implement and oversee the goals, activities, and requirements of Project WISE as they relate to school violence prevention and behavior threat assessment, make recommendations for change; and perform related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a master's degree in counseling, school psychology, or a closely related field [official transcript(s) required].; LCSW licensure preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of state and federal school laws, rules and regulations and NPS policy and procedure;
Considerable knowledge of modern education techniques, methods and practices, current trends, and sources of information in the field of education as well as solution focused therapy and motivational interviewing strategies and modalities;
Considerable knowledge of mental health interventions and prevention programs, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS); proactive behavioral interventions and positive behavioral supports;
Knowledge of supports for families and adolescents and the ability to connect with families to connect to resources
Considerable knowledge of Behavioral Threat Assessment protocols
Ability to work with individuals and school site teams to determine appropriate supports for students and families
Ability to collaborate with program staff to evaluate the progress of students' well being
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to build therapeutic rapport with students and families quickly;
Knowledge in best practice for prevention and therapeutic group counseling interventions;
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with fellow employees, school officials and the general public;
Ability to express facts and opinions clearly and concisely;
Commitment to teamwork, consensus management and participatory decision-making processes; commitment and willingness to provide courteous, consistent, efficient service through the performance of the prescribed job duties;
Ability to maintain clear and concise therapeutic notes and records;
Considerable knowledge in HIPPA, FERPA and the PPRA (Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment;
Considerable knowledge in early identification screening methods and best practices for the assessment of student mental health needs POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist school sites with Behavior Threat Assessment supports and training;
Collaborate with site level behavior threat assessment teams to determine student specific interventions needed;
Provide resources and supports for students and families identified through the Behavior Threat Assessment Process;
Work closely with school leaders and counselors as well as community partners to develop programs of intervention and support for students who are identified through the Safety Assessment and Management protocol.
Connect with families, as a support, to assist in providing access to resources for students identified whether attending in person school or receiving virtual education.
Facilitate trauma informed training for school resource officers and behavior technicians;
Collaborate with the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator for the dissemination of parent resources;
Collaborate with the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator to host Ask a Therapist Live events;
Monitor emotional and academic progress of students being served
Complete all required grant related reports, monitor progress towards grant goals and evaluate program effectiveness. TRAVEL
Travel within the school district to school sites as needed..
