What You'll Do:
Responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining the packaging commodity technical drawings using AutoCAD as well as to provide technical knowledge and leadership to identify and implement secondary packaging programs (i.e. adhesive labels, shrink sleeves, corrugated shippers, paper cartons, various printing technology) for Abbott Nutrition.
Apply advanced methods and techniques to design and execute new packaging materials and structures.
Understand transit routes and recommend development of secondary packaging structures and pallet patterns that will meet supply chain distribution.
Programs will range from development of new secondary packaging concepts through optimization of existing secondary packaging for nutritional products.
Collaborate across divisional and regional boundaries is critical to be successful.
This position functionally resides in the Global Packaging Operations group, reporting directly to the Packaging Technical Services Manager.
Require the incumbent to travel locally sometimes at short notice and for extended durations.
Cross functional collaboration with Packaging Operations, Labeling, and Quality Assurance.
Develop, update, and maintain packaging commodity technical drawings using AutoCAD.
Identify and develop new secondary packaging structures from concept through commercialization.
Develop and produce secondary packaging mock-up samples for design review.
Support and lead package function and distribution testing in the Packaging Lab.
Implement project work for Abbott sites and third-party co-packaging manufacturers.
Identify and implement cost-optimized opportunities with existing packaging.
Provide technical expertise on distribution packaging issues.
Provide detailed technical input and support to organizations employed on major capital projects.
Provide technical input to manufacturing sites on overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) improvement solutions for secondary packaging.
What You'll Bring:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging, Engineering, or related technical field and/or 1+ year packaging technical experience.
Experience in packaging test equipment and packaging software programs (i.e., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cape Pack)
Thorough technical knowledge of a wide range of packaging materials, structures, and printed material manufacturing processes.
Experience in resolving supply chain challenges. ISTA certification is a bonus.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to effectively interface with broad global cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently.
Effective critical thinking skills.
10% travel.
The base pay for this position is $50,000.00 – $100,000.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
