Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer (Contractor) with specialized experience in F5 Distributed Cloud Web Application Firewall (WAF), Palo Alto Networks firewalls, and Python-based automation. This individual will play a key role on our Cybersecurity Engineering team, driving the implementation of advanced security controls across both cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on securing web applications, automating security workflows, and enforcing network segmentation in line with modern zero-trust architecture principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and manage F5 Distributed Cloud WAF to protect enterprise and external-facing web applications
Administer and maintain Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including policy management, rulebase audits, and Panorama configurations
Develop and maintain Python automation scripts for firewall operations, configuration validation, and reporting workflows
Collaborate with IT, DevOps, and security teams to safeguard network perimeters and ensure secure data flows across hybrid environments
Support incident response activities by analyzing firewall and WAF telemetry and deploying mitigation controls
Contribute to security architecture reviews and assist in the design of secure, scalable solutions aligned with zero-trust models
Document firewall standards, WAF policies, and automation tools to support operational consistency and knowledge sharing
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, network security, or related engineering roles
Hands-on expertise with F5 Distributed Cloud WAF, including WAF policy configuration, bot mitigation, and API protection
Advanced knowledge of Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including centralized management with Panorama and in-depth policy tuning
Proficiency in Python scripting for automation, log processing, and API integrations
Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S), SSL decryption, and traffic inspection techniques
Experience integrating with log aggregation and SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, Cortex Data Lake)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), especially in securing workloads and services
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar
Understanding of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipeline security
Relevant certifications such as PCNSE, F5 Certified Administrator, GSEC, or equivalent
