Salary: $85K-$116K
The Assistant Controller supports the financial operations of the company by assisting in financial reporting, budgeting, cost control, compliance, and accounting functions. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial information and effective financial processes for field operations, subcontractor management, and project accounting.
Responsibilities
Assists Controller as needed in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
Assist Controller with job cost accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
Analyze project financial performance, including margin variance and cost-to-complete analysis
Collaborate with Controller and Project Managers to monitor budgets, change orders, and cost allocations
Assist in managing journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals
Ensure accurate tracking of labor, equipment, and materials on construction projects
Assist in maintaining and reconciling project-specific general ledger accounts
Oversee invoice coding, subcontractor payments, and lien waivers
Monitor collections and aging reports and support AR efforts for timely billing and payments
Reconcile vendor accounts
Support internal and external audits, including preparation of documentation
Maintain compliance with state and federal tax requirements, insurance, and bonding
Assist in the optimization of construction accounting software
Help develop standard operating procedures for financial controls and reporting
Assist Controller with accounting staff as needed
Backup for managing company expense reimbursements and petty cash funds
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required
Requirements
Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Minimum 5 years of accounting/finance experience, with at least 1 year in construction or project-based accounting
Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction job costing
Intermediate-advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills
Experience with Viewpoint Vista, Procore, or other similar integrated accounting software
Familiarity with AIA billing, WIP reporting, and subcontractor management
Ability to maintain open, direct, and positive lines of communication with management
Ability to be self-directed in a team-oriented
