Job Description

Engine Lathes, Milling Machines, and Grinders

Basic Function:

Operates manual machine tools to produce components used in the manufacture or repair of hydraulic cylinders, or machined components for contract customers.

Typical Duties:

Reads and interprets engineering drawings to plan and set-up all manual machine tools. Set-up includes selecting proper tooling and fixtures.

Uses all types of measuring and gauging tools or instruments to verify accuracy of set-up prior to start of production run.

Adjusts machine, tools, or fixture to insure machined parts conform to engineering drawings or other specifications. Uses typical machinist hand-tools.

Uses measuring and gauging tools to determine usability of parts for repair orders.

Repair defective parts or make replacement parts when repairs are not practical.

Produces quantity of parts in accordance with order or supervisor’s instructions.

Performs manual operations on parts, such as de-burring, cleaning tapped holes, and removing excess oils or coolant, before moving them to the next work center or holding area.

Additional Responsibilities:

Observes and listens to machine tool to detect any performance discrepancy or potential failure.

Makes minor maintenance adjustments or repairs to machine, as required.

Maintains a clean machine and orderly work area.

Observes all rules for personal safety and all public laws or regulations for protection of the environment.

Completes documentation or data entry, as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Experience Preferences

3-5 years of machinist experience

Basic computer skills
