Job Description

Objective: Efficiently manage day to day operations, providing general oversight to all staff in paint & decorating, ensuring customers are satisfied, inventory managed while maintaining sales/margin/labor goals. Provide positive leadership and exceptional communication to Team Members. Work with the General Manager to ensure an efficient and smooth running store, functional with minimal input from owners.

Team Management:

Maintain a positive employee culture, keep your team engaged. Provide effective oversight, leadership expectations and accountability to team members, for their job responsibilities, company policies and procedures, through the ebb and flow of a retail environment, along with employee reviews, team building activities etc.

Teach/train your team, delegate tasks and responsibilities as needed

Encourage staff to provide excellent customer service by

Promptly serving customers in-store, via phone, deliveries or jobsite’s etc.

Teach employees to have knowledge of various customers ongoing projects/product selections

Manage schedule - ensure store is properly staffed at all times and schedule is communicated to team

Inform team of various sales, promotions, spiff’s, new products etc.

Performance reviews for direct reports

Customer Service:

Ensure paint & decorating/retail & contractors needs and expectations are met on a consistent basis, whether in person or by phone, offer guidance for product and color selections, accurately take and fulfill orders, color matching, mixing paint etc.

Ensure a fun, comfortable atmosphere for customers and build a “barber shop” experience. Hospitality bar is presentable, stocked and offered to customers

Determine and resolve customer issues in a proper and efficient manner

Provide accurate pricing to various contractors

Holiday/inclement weather related signs are posted and communicated

Continue our strengths and actively work on areas of improvement

Inventory Management:

Accurately ordering/receiving/sending products, warehouse transfers etc.

Ensuring shelves are filled with appropriate levels of stock daily and around sales events, effectively organizing products in the stockroom, price stickers reflect accurate pricing, face shelves, inventory counts, product rotation, managing dead stock, inventory counts, mistints, product returns to vendors etc. Ensure displays are accurate and up to date

Know the products and their uses, train your team

Equipment and Property Maintenance:

Ensure all equipment & job related tools are in working order - computer software remains updated (windows, decor, colorx etc)

Inside maintenance - keep showroom and warehouse spaces cleaned and organized. Example; product placement, floors swept and mopped, bathrooms cleaned, face inventory, dust counters, HVAC filters replaced, light bulbs etc. Report major areas of concern to General Manager or building owner

Outside maintenance - example parking lots, sidewalks free of trash, leaves, flower beds and pots maintained, communicate with landscapers and snow removal as needed

Keep the store in a safe and functional workplace

General Operations:

Assist with day to day responsibilities (delegate as needed) - properly opened and closed - disabling/enabling alarm, turning on/off all computers/tint machines, purging tint machines, reconciling register/cash, filling tint machines, mixing paint, color matching, warehouse transfers, unloading/receiving trucks orders, stocking shelves, preparing for the next day and other duties related to a retail paint environment etc.

Grow and maintain store profitability and monitor the various financial metrics provided by management for areas including sales, margin, labor allocations, inventory turns and stock levels.

Actively engage in management meetings, provide suggestions to peers and owners - effectively communicate information to your team as needed.

Look for opportunities for efficiency: team, inventory, store layout etc.

Knowledge of company POS software, shopify and various Ben Moore programs

Events - painters breakfast, ball game, COTY etc. attend and prepare store and team for various events

Other tasks that are required in a retail environment, or delegated by General Manager

Qualifications & Physical Requirements:

Teamwork: Experience and Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth store operations and provide support as needed.

Customer Service Expertise: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively assist customers, answer inquiries, and provide knowledgeable guidance on product selection and usage.

Problem-Solving Skills: Aptitude to troubleshoot customer issues, provide technical support, and resolve any challenges related to product application or performance. Ability to work under pressure and delegate responsibilities as needed

Organizational Skills: The capacity to manage your time efficiently and appropriately and do multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining an orderly work environment.

Basic Computer Skills: Aptitude to process orders, use point-of-sale systems, email services, and access product information or training materials as needed.

Strong interpersonal skill and strong display of time management skills

Physical Stamina: Willingness and ability to lift 50 pounds, move heavy paint cans/ other merchandise, position themselves to move such as stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, turn, bend, reach, pull, crawl, ascend or descend ladders as well as stand for extended periods of time etc.

Experience in the retail and/or paint environment, team management will be needed

Time expectations: the store must be appropriately staffed/managed during opening hours. Either the Store Manager/Assistant Store Manager should be present/available during business hours. Additionally store management and off hour responsibilities such as: vacations/call offs, employee/customer assistance, attendance to customer events, general store issues etc. may be required. Given the varied nature of these responsibilities, the schedule for this position may vary. On average, it is expected that this role will require more than 45 hours per week. However, the specific workload may fluctuate from week to week depending on circumstances.
