Description

The Health and Wellness program at Iona University is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and student-focused adjunct instructor to teach HW 150 Introduction to Exercise & Health Science Applications. HW 150 explores the scientific foundations of exercise and sport, examining how physical activity impacts human health and performance. Key topics cover basic human anatomy and physiology, and connecting these concepts to exercise programming, including highlighting its benefits and critically evaluating training myths, and the use of performance-enhancing substances. We are seeking a proactive, innovative, and engaging individual who can integrate various technologies into their teaching including the use of Blackboard Ultra. The individual will teach using laboratory exercises and materials as needed for hands-on learning. The class will be held at the Iona University Bronxville campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am - 11:52am from August 26 to December 4, 2025. The final exam will be a one, two-hour meeting time during the second week of December 2025.

Responsibilities include:

Course instruction: Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction based on the approved syllabus, including lectures, discussions, and practical applications of course content.

Assessment and Evaluation: Design and administer assessments, including quizzes, exams, assignments, and projects, to gauge student comprehension and course progression.

Student Engagement: Create a dynamic and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages participation, critical thinking, and application of exercise science principles in health and wellness contexts.

Office Hours: Offer regular in-person or virtual office hours to provide academic support, guidance, and mentorship to students as needed.

Compliance: Ensure adherence to university policies and department guidelines, including attendance, grading, and classroom conduct standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree or higher in Health Sciences, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Movement Science, Athletic Training, or a closely related field. Athletic trainer certified, certified strength and conditioning, or similar certification is preferred.

Experience: Previous teaching experience in a college or university setting, preferably in health or exercise sciences. Clinical experience in human performance and strength training is also preferred.

Skills: Strong knowledge of health/exercise science, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in learning management systems (LMS) and instructional technologies.

Commitment: Dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diverse perspectives.
