Overview

The Food Program Manager prepares and cooks breakfast and lunch for 30 students every school day, in addition to overseeing and implement all aspects of our food service.

Responsibilities

Facilitate food service operations, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Become a certified Food Protection Manager through a short online course, paid for by the school.

Coordinate with the Executive Director on projects related to menu design, program development, and food service enhancements.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen.

Cultivate a warm and friendly kitchen environment where students and staff feel comfortable coming to get food, requesting alternative foods when necessary, and suggesting new recipe ideas.

Maintain an effective system to using up food before it expires, ordering ingredients for upcoming meals, taking inventory, and eliminating food waste.

Work with the Executive Director to learn all of the rules of the National School Lunch Program and maintain an up-to-date knowledge about all procedures relating to these requirements.

Follow USDA recipes, serving sizes, and meal recording meticulously.

Skills

Cooking and baking many types of foods.

Comprehensive knowledge about food safety, further supplemented by the Food Protection Officer training course.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to interact with both teenagers and staff in a way that promotes a positive culture around food.
