Bowhead is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux System Administrator to join our dynamic IT team. This is a 100% onsite position located in Norco, CA. As a Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of our critical Linux-based infrastructure. Experience working within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment is highly desirable.

This position is 100% onsite.

Responsibilities

• Systems Administrator administers and supports daily operational requirem• Linux Systems Administration: Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) including operating system installation, patching, and security hardening.• Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for all Linux-related issues, providing guidance and support to other team members.• Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to optimize system performance and stability.• Security Management: Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and data, including access controls, intrusion detection, and vulnerability scanning.• Scripting and Automation: Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency.• Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve complex system issues in a timely and effective manner.• Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.• Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams (e.g., networking, security, development) to ensure seamless integration of systems and services.• Backup and Recovery: Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity.• Compliance: Ensure systems comply with relevant security standards and regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.• 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator with a strong focus on Linux systems.• Deep understanding of Linux operating systems, including kernel configuration, system services, and security principles.• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).

• Security+ certification or equivalent.• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Desired:• Experience working in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment.• Experience with security compliance frameworks (e.g., STIGs, NIST).• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).• Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).• Relevant certifications (e.g., Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), CompTIA Linux+).

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the minimum Secret level.

Physical Demands:• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time• Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
