JOB TITLE: Medical Coder III

POSITION TIMING: Immediate hire upon [DC1] completion of all background and security investigations.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Medical Coder III position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate medical coding and documentation. This involves handling complex case scenarios, applying a combination of facility coding and professional coding, and aligning with industry standards like ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes. The coders will facilitate proper documentation and communication with medical staff to enhance compliance and coding accuracy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Accurately assign various medical codes and modifiers for inpatient discharges and surgical procedures.
Review and resolve inconsistencies in medical documentation.
Educate and provide feedback to providers and clinical staff regarding documentation support.
Collaborate with medical coding auditors and provide coding guidance to staff.
Utilize Military Health System (MHS) to access and code patient records supporting other facilities.
Maintain Defense Health Agency (DHA) coding productivity and accuracy standards.
QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS
Professional coding certification such as CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P.
Institutional coding certification: CIC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS.
E&M coding certification: CEMC or CEMA.
General skills in medical ethics, communication, and customer service.
EDUCATION:
Post-high school education with an Associate’s degree or higher, or equivalent in a relevant field such as Health Information Management.
SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday for an eight-hour shift between the hours of 0630 and 1630, including a 30-minute meal break. The first 30 days on-site, with potential teleworking up to four times a week upon approval.
PAY: $32.46 per hour
