The Associate Director is responsible for promoting student learning and success and works collaboratively with other campus departments to maximize the potential of residence halls to impact student growth and development. The Associate Director provides oversight for commuter student support, programming, and success. The Associate Director assists in providing overall administration of residential facilities including enforcement of University regulations/policies, Student Staff selection, training, and supervision, educational programming, conflict resolution, and administrative/facilities management.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Residential Life and supervision: Oversees development, editing, and implementation of the Community Development model. Leads, with the support of the director, opening and closing processes as well as break and summer housing. Responsible for supervision of 2 Community Coordinators, 1 Commuter Student Assistant, and indirect supervision of 40 student staff members. Coordinates, with guidance from director, Fall and spring student staff training.

Commuter Life: Leads commuter life initiatives including upkeep of commuter lounge, facilitation of commuter lockers, oversight of Commuter Student Assistant, Commuter programming and support of Commuter student Association.

Student Success: Participates in bi-weekly student success meetings, manages assigned caseload of commuter students, and supports the Community Coordinators in case management.

Student Rights and Responsibility: Adjudicates escalated/complex student conduct cases, serves as primary conduct officer for commuter students, serves as appeal body for Community Coordinators.

Intervention: Participates in first tier on call rotation providing support to students and the community as a whole. Partners with facilities, housekeeping, public safety and other campus partners to ensure the safety and security of those living on campus.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent preferred; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Possesses a positive attitude towards cultural differences. Willing to gain knowledge of different cultural practices and world views and determine how those practices and views will factor in during investigations, complaints, reports, findings, etc.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have excellent skills in the Microsoft suite of products, inDesign, Canva, and social media platforms.

Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.

This position requires the ability and/or skill to work closely and professionally with others as part of a team, be flexible, pay attention to detail, work without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative, communicate professionally through both verbal and written means, work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds, manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, establish departmental goals and priorities, contribute to Capital University's mission and vision.
