Controller - Not for Profit
The Controller will oversee all accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP standards, particularly for nonprofit entities and tax credit-financed housing. This individual will implement and monitor internal controls, manage financial operations, and support leadership with strategic financial analysis and reporting.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management
Manage monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
Monitor cash flow and support financial planning and forecasting
Prepare internal financial statements and assist with annual audits and other compliance reviews
Lead budget development and conduct variance analysis for programs and departments
Oversee financial reporting for grants and contracts; ensure compliance with funder requirements
Supervise finance team members and support continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and financial transparency
Qualifications:
Bachelorâ s degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
8+ years of nonprofit accounting experience
Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit financials, and internal controls
Prior experience with audits, budgeting, and grant/contract reporting
Strong managerial and supervisory skills
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and improve financial processes
Strong Excel skills; experience with accounting systems (e.g., FundEZ, Bill.com, ADP) a plus
High integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality in financial matters
