Essential Responsibilities

The Bradford M. Freeman Managing Director of Global Policy (Managing Director) of the George W. Bush Institute (Bush Institute) serves as a senior leader in the Bush Institute and as a subject matter expert on global leadership. This position is responsible for being a thought leader and for the high-quality execution and results of initiatives and programs focused on global policy within the Bush Institute. The Managing Director oversees strategic development of research, policy, and programmatic efforts with the collaboration and support of the relevant teams in the Bush Institute. This position is also responsible for supporting the Executive Director in driving the overall mission, strategy, and impact of the Bush Institute. Specific responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

Thought Leadership and Subject Matter Expertise

Bring extensive expertise on global leadership and serve as a senior thought leader and expert on issues such as American leadership and engagement overseas, democracy, foreign policy, foreign assistance, global health, and international economic policy.

Identify emerging trends on issues of global leadership and recommend future policy and programmatic efforts.

Initiate projects based on specified issue areas across the Bush Institute with the collaboration and support of the relevant teams in the Institute.

Write, speak, and serve as a resource for key influencers and policy makers across the public, not-for-profit, and private sectors.

Produce written reports and policy recommendations on key issues in global leadership.

Raise the profile and amplify the voices of the work of the Bush Institute on global leadership. Strategic Planning, Management, and Program Oversight

Support the Executive Director and serve as the senior subject matter expert responsible for the overall strategic direction of global policy initiatives within the Bush Institute.

Oversee and work with Global Policy Directors, Fellows, and staff in developing and implementing policy initiatives on global leadership, providing guidance and feedback on a regular basis.

Coordinate and synchronize annual and project-based plans across their global policy initiatives in coordination with the Executive Director; ensure alignment with organizational vision, values, and mission.

Recruit, retain/grow, and oversee the work of staff and fellows on global leadership; develop and foster team culture.

Drive achievement of program outcomes that advance the Bush Institute as a thought leader and lead to action on the advancement free societies and strengthening of democracy.

Work with the Bush Institute's Chief Operating Officer to develop and oversee annual budgets that contribute to an overall culture of fiscal responsibility.

Be accountable to a set of shared Bush Center goals, ensuring delivery of programs that meet deadlines, contribute to overall results, and fulfill the overall mission. External Engagement and Support

Conduct outreach and engagement with key organizations, senior leaders, and key influencers across government, the private sector, academia, not-for-profits, and philanthropy.

Develop and execute key external alliances and partnerships for the Bush Institute on global leadership.

Work collaboratively with the Donor Relations team to raise general and/or program designated funds that help sustain their global leadership activities. Communications

Represent the Bush Institute externally to the media, at public events, and via other forums.

Contribute content for web, social media, print, and other distribution channels.

Work collaboratively with the Communications and Events teams to develop communication strategies and events that engage target audiences and drive impact and desired outcomes.

Complete other duties as necessary or assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The qualified candidate will possess (a/an):

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field; an advanced degree in an applicable field preferred

Minimum of fifteen years of experience in public policy.

Demonstrated thought leadership on global leadership issues, especially related to policy development, analysis, and implementation.

Strong management and supervisory and mentoring skills/experience.

Proven track record of leadership with an organization at the executive level.

Superb organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; experience speaking in public settings and with the media.

Experience leading and motivating teams.

A strong professional network, especially in global leadership.

Ability to travel up to 25% both domestically and internationally as needed.
