Job Title: IT Internship & Systems Support Virginia Community Center Reports to: Case Manager or Program Director Women for Afghan Women (WAW) is a grassroots, civil society organization dedicated to securing and protecting the rights of disenfranchised Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and the US, particularly their rights to develop their individual potential, to self-determination, and to be represented in all areas of life: political, social, cultural, and economic.
WAW advocates for women’s rights and challenges the norms that underpin gender-based violence wherever opportunities arise to influence attitudes and bring about change.
Position Summary The Virginia Afghan Community Center (VACC) of Women for Afghan Women (WAW) is seeking a tech-savvy Intern to support the integration and maintenance of new software systems, particularly Apricot.
This internship is ideal for someone interested in IT support and systems troubleshooting within a nonprofit environment.
The intern will assist staff in navigating the platform, documenting bugs, and liaising with technical support teams to resolve issues efficiently.
Location: Cherokee Ave, Alexandria, VA 22312 Key Responsibilities:Support staff in using Apricot and identifying platform issues or user difficultiesDocument bugs, errors, and software-related challenges experienced by the teamServe as a point of contact with the software’s support team to ensure timely resolutionProvide informal IT support for basic troubleshooting and user trainingHelp optimize staff use of internal systems and data platformsParticipate in check-ins or meetings related to tech implementation and improvements Qualifications:Strong interest in IT systems, database platforms, or technical supportFamiliarity with Apricot or similar case management systems is a plusEffective communicator with the ability to explain technical issues clearlyDetail-oriented and comfortable with problem-solvingFlexible availability, up to 12 hours per week, based on needs and capacityWillingness to collaborate with program and IT staff Preferred Qualifications:Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.Experience using helpdesk platforms or supporting administrative processes is a plus, but not required.
