Java Lead

Technical Lead – Individual Product Journey (Retirement Strategies Business Unit) We are seeking a Technical Lead to join our Individual Product Journey team within the Retirement Strategies Business Unit.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with product owners, designers, engineers, and delivery professionals to launch innovative financial products using modern architecture and development practices.

As a strategic partner and hands-on leader, you will:Design and implement robust, scalable solutions aligned with firmwide modernization and technology strategies.Break down complex deliverables into clear, actionable components and drive their successful execution.Collaborate with fellow technology leaders to determine optimal design and integration approaches and gain consensus for technical direction.Mentor and guide software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and ownership.Stay informed on enterprise-wide technology initiatives to ensure alignment and cross-functional integration.Deliver exceptional digital experiences that address sophisticated business needs and delight our customers.

Key Responsibilities:Drive the modernization and maintenance of services within your area of ownership.Lead technical design, infrastructure strategy, and deployment planning for your team’s deliverables.Partner with product owners to shape a technology roadmap that balances innovation with stability.Monitor service health, uptime, and performance metrics.Establish and advocate for best practices in development, operations, and continuous delivery.Conduct code reviews, provide technical oversight, and promote engineering best practices.Identify and eliminate technical blockers to ensure smooth delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.Proven ability to lead and inspire diverse teams, promoting collaboration and innovation.Strong experience with agile methodologies and Test-Driven Development (TDD).3–7 years of hands-on development experience using technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Python, Node.js, React, or Angular.3–5 years of experience leading small to mid-sized engineering teams.Background in designing and building financial services applications.Proficiency with cloud-native development on AWS, including ECS, containerization, and API gateways (e.g., Kong, Apigee).Deep understanding of authentication/authorization within service-oriented architectures.Strong business acumen with the ability to align technology solutions with strategic objectives.Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Exceptional problem-solving and collaboration skills.
