As the Machine Shop Manager, you will lead the Machine Shop staff and operations to ensure the quality, safety, and efficiency of our manufacturing processes.
You will be responsible for maintaining equipment, implementing production schedules, managing budgets, and coordinating activities with other departments such as engineering, quality control and supply chain.
Communication, problem solving, continuous improvements along with lean initiatives are key ingredients of daily and long term success.
Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment, best practices, and industry improvement strategies are essential.
Summary of Essential Job Functions: Manage and supervise a team of machinists, technicians and other shop employees.
Includes hiring, training and evaluating staff performance through ongoing progress reviews and formal annual performance reviews.Through the section Leads, delegate daily responsibilities and projects to achieve departmental and company goals.Assure quality, safety and cost objectives are met by identifying methods, training, staffing or equipment needed.
Recommend alternatives and implement as approved.Anticipate and react to changes in business or customer needs.Ensure production schedules meet timely delivery of products and are coordinated with the needs of cross functional departments.With the QC Department, assure that Machine Shop staff properly perform set-up and in process inspections.Increase efficiency and productivity while reducing costs, including setup and run times through lean initiatives.Reduce scrap.Oversee the preventative and regular maintenance and repair of machinery ensuring efficient and safe operations.Ensure compliance with all health and safety programs and regulations as they relate to employee work practices and the shop environment.Manage the machine shop budget including costs related to labor, materials and equipment.
Recommend equipment upgrades and replacements as required.Oversee inventory level of tools, ensuring availability and minimizing waste while controlling costs.Motivate staff to identify opportunities for improvements.Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 and other quality programs.Other responsibilities may be added to fulfill the duties associated with the growing needs of the company and position.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree preferred (Mechanical Engineering a plus).At least 8-10 years in a manufacturing supervisory position with progressive leadership responsibilities.In-depth understanding of machining processes, CNC programming with Esprit.Manufacturing experience including CNC equipment, manual mills, lathes, CNC machining centers and other equipment.Experience with machine scheduling in a small to medium batch manufacturing environment with extensive setups and prototyping.Strong leadership, communication, motivational, and team building skills.Excellent organizational and time management abilities.Proficiency in relevant software, such as CAD/CAM, ERP systems and Excel.Strong problem-solving and attention to detail skills.Working knowledge of lean manufacturing.G-code, Esprit and SolidWorks a plus.
