SUMMARY:

Responsible for new and modified designs, Catia 3D model, Catia 2D drawings, Bill of Materials (BoM) and drawing changes across several product lines. Coordinate with project engineer, test lab, and manufacturing to update drawings and ensure timely drawing release through document control system. Interpret customer and regulatory requirements and incorporate into design. Define and manage design features for structural, non-structural, hardware, interface control, materials, and finishes to produce 2D drawings for fabrication, inspection, and procurement. Define the appropriate materials, tempers, forms, welding, casting, forging, tolerances, and hardware for fabrication and cost-effective manufacturing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Define the design features to create a design capable of satisfying the customer specification requirements.

Assist Project Engineers in the development of sketches, drawings, and designs.

Support all phases of a program from initial concept, through detail design, product development, test qualification and production.

Review, analyze, and interpret customer specifications.

Design features to comply with the FAA defined Fail Safe, Safe Life, Damage Tolerance regulations to the design.

Research technical specifications, documents, review, and interpret data and test results to converge on a design that ensures products meet requirements.

Select and specify materials and processes.

Apply standard and Geometric Dimensioning Tolerance principles, and apply to models, designs, and drawings. Perform detailed stack-up tolerance analysis.

Detail the design layout with functional and physical characteristics.

Review and check engineering drawings to satisfy the established criteria.

Communicate with and support customer designers and analysts.

Assist in product development to advance technology to meet customer's demands

Participates in product development, concurrent engineering, design to cost and cycle time with all disciplines and/or suppliers.

Execute timely and accurate designs to maintain the manufacturing/fabrication schedule as well as the program schedule.

Represent Engineering in MRB (Material Review Board) activities. Provide technical support to production and customers. Evaluate and recommend product improvements to reduce production costs without compromising quality or performance requirements.

Travel occasionally. Mainly North America, Europe, Asia and/or South America as required.

Education and/or Experience (minimum): Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Mechanical, Aerospace, Applied Mechanics or Engineering Sciences, 2-6 years mechanical engineering experience of aerospace primary structures in a product development environment. Proficient at CatiaV6 / V5 3D modeling and Catia 2D drafting and PDM or PLM system, 3DExperience. Proficient at mechanical drawings, design principles, best practices, geometric tolerance, stack-up analysis, general principles of dynamics, strength of materials, and familiarity with materials and processes used in the aerospace industry. Familiarity with the use of elastomers as an engineering material and anti-vibration components

Engineering / Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts used in engineering, statistics, calculus and basic accounting principles. Use data analysis to interpret results.

Computer Skills: Proficient using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Product Design / Life Management (PDLM) systems, CatiaV6/V5, 3DExperience. Working knowledge of Windows environment. MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Acrobat, Paint and other PC programs. Experienced preparing tables and producing spreadsheets for efficiencies.

Problem Solving: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Demonstrate problem-solving techniques, use technical resources, and analyze alternatives and research issues.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch and lift light to heavy weighing items. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus from close items to items at a distance.

Salary range $90,000 to $110,000
