Position Summary
The Automation/Controls Engineer will support plant engineering operations by managing new equipment installations, modifying existing systems, and troubleshooting issues that impact manufacturing productivity. This role involves maintaining PLC, HMI, and drive programming software, creating detailed part drawings, and contributing to process improvements. The engineer will also assume plant engineering responsibilities in the absence of the Plant Engineer and provide leadership in maintenance operations when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Duties
Manage installation and startup of new equipment and modifications to existing systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, electronic, and mechanical issues in a manufacturing environment.
Maintain and program PLCs, HMIs, and AC/DC drive systems (digital and analog).
Create detailed part drawings for in-house or outsourced manufacturing.
Design and implement equipment upgrades and process improvements. Project & Vendor Management
Draft capital expenditure requisitions and gather supporting justification.
Coordinate with vendors for equipment and service procurement.
Complete project documentation including item listings and cost tracking. Technology & Software
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems.
Knowledge of communication protocols and PC fundamentals. Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, EPA, and WDNR regulations.
Promote and maintain a safe working environment. Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise Maintenance Department staff in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
Responsibilities include training, assigning tasks, performance evaluations, and conflict resolution in accordance with company policies. Qualifications
Proven experience in automation, controls, and manufacturing environments.
Strong technical skills in PLC/HMI programming and drive systems.
Ability to manage projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with regulatory standards and safety practices.
