About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems with renewable energy integration expertise to join our client's team in Los Angeles on a contract basis. This role will focus on designing, analyzing, and optimizing power systems that incorporate renewable energy sources, supporting California's ambitious clean energy goals.
Responsibilities
Design and develop electrical power systems that integrate renewable energy sources (solar, wind, battery storage)
Perform power system modeling, load flow analysis, short circuit studies, and stability analysis
Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and electrical drawings for renewable integration projects
Conduct grid interconnection studies and develop technical solutions for renewable energy systems
Analyze system protection requirements and develop relay coordination schemes
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (NERC, FERC, CAISO)
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, mechanical, and environmental engineers
Provide technical expertise during construction and commissioning phases
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system issues in existing infrastructure
Prepare technical reports, specifications, and engineering calculations Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)
5+ years of experience in power systems engineering
3+ years of experience with renewable energy integration projects
Strong understanding of power system protection, control systems, and grid operations
Experience with power system analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E, PowerWorld, or similar)
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (IEEE, NEC, NFPA, NESC)
Understanding of utility interconnection requirements and procedures
Experience with distribution/transmission system design and analysis
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred Preferred Qualifications
Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS)
Knowledge of SCADA systems and smart grid technologies
Background in microgrid design and implementation
Familiarity with California's renewable energy policies and regulations
Experience with distributed energy resource (DER) integration
Background in power electronics and inverter technologies
Project management experience Contract Details
6-12 month contract with possibility of extension
Competitive hourly rate ($85-100/hour based on experience)
Some on-site work required at project locations throughout Southern California
