General Description
Do you have a passion for designing, inspecting, and managing architectural and engineering projects? The Department of Public Works is looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as a Facilities Engineer. This position performs work in the design, construction administration and construction inspection of a multitude of architectural and engineering projects.
Hiring Range: $75,275-$88,067
Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Plus additional hours as required.
No residency requirement.

Examples of Duties
Performs architectural and engineering design, cost estimating, specification writing, contract administration, construction inspection and supervision of public works projects that vary from building construction, maintenance, renovations/repairs, demolition, and various other public works projects.
Administers public works contracts of average to moderate difficulty.
Prepared technical reports, studies, and permit and/or grant applications.
Assists in construction supervision and inspects construction of various public works projects. Performs field review to aid in design.
Coordinates Engineering Technicians in preparation of plans and specification and inspections of Special projects construction.
Drafts and administers professional services contracts. Assists in review of plans and specifications prepared by consultants for City projects from scoping the project to project completion.
Reviews contractor material submittals, prepares payments, and reviews and processes change orders for public works contracts.
With assistance from the Facilities Manager, meets with the public contractors, other departments and contractor with respect to public works projects.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related Engineering discipline.
Previous related engineering, architectural, or project management experience highly desirable. (3-5 years practical experience required for Civil Engineer II.)
Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (AIA) in the State of Wisconsin highly desirable.
Valid driver's license and good driving record. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Considerable knowledge of civil engineering and architectural principles and practices as applied to the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates and reports for public works construction. Good knowledge of field engineering, including surveying, construction inspection and construction practices. Good knowledge in the sources of engineering information.
Skill in receiving assignments in general terms and to schedule, plan, layout and direct the work of a group of engineering subordinates. Skill in coordinating the work of a unit with a general program or specific problems. Skill in applying engineering theory to complex field and office problems. Skill in coordinating various engineering and operational activities.
Ability to proficiently utilize a computer and the required software. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to work with limited supervision. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public. Ability to work the required hours of the position May be required to demonstrate minimum competency by successfully passing approved tests.
