Controller

We're seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting operations for a growing construction company. This role is hands-on and requires a deep understanding of construction accounting, job costing, and financial reporting. The Controller will ensure timely, accurate financials while leading a small team and improving processes to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations: general ledger, AR/AP, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.

Manage job cost accounting, including WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and cost tracking by project.

Prepare monthly financial statements and dashboards for executive leadership.

Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning in partnership with operations.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting rules (percentage-of-completion, etc.).

Manage audits, bonding requirements, tax filings, and coordinate with external CPA firms.

Implement and improve accounting systems, policies, and internal controls.

Supervise and mentor accounting staff, including AP, AR, and payroll functions.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred.

7+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in construction or job cost environments.

Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles (e.g., WIP, retainage, contract billing).

Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation).

Advanced Excel skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Detail-oriented with strong leadership and communication skills.
