Position Overview:
We’re seeking a detail-oriented Controls Technician/Automation Technician with a strong background in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, and electromechanical systems. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing advanced automated equipment in a manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on technical position supporting production operations through continuous improvement and technical problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and repair PLC-driven automation systems and robotic equipment to minimize downtime.
Install, maintain, and calibrate process control instruments, safety systems, and electrical/pneumatic/hydraulic energy delivery systems.
Develop, adjust, and troubleshoot robotic programs, including offline and text-based robot programming.
Utilize software tools such as RSLogix, Visual Basic, and C++ for system configuration and diagnostics.
Read and interpret technical schematics and blueprints for electrical and mechanical systems.
Document maintenance procedures and recommend process and system improvements.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify opportunities for automation optimization.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing root causes and implementing long-term solutions.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
May train and mentor junior technical staff and support hazardous waste handling procedures when required.
Tools & Systems You’ll Work With:
Tools: Robotic teach pendants, integrated vision/laser systems, volt/ohm meters, oscilloscopes, PLC diagnostic tools.
Software: RSLogix, Visual Basic, C++, Microsoft Office Suite.
Systems: MES, PLCs, robotic controllers, SAP (optional), and test instrumentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with industrial automation equipment, PLC programming, and system integration.
Formal training or certification in Robotics or PLC controls required (e.g., Manchester Community College or similar programs).
Strong understanding of ladder logic, function blocks, and digital circuit troubleshooting.
Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics and system blueprints.
Comfortable working with digital and analog test equipment.
Basic computer literacy and competency with Excel, Word, and other standard applications.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform tasks in a manufacturing environment.
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in manufacturing environments with complex automation systems.
Familiarity with safety protocols and hazardous material handling procedures.
Bilingual or multilingual abilities are a plus.
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Additional technical certifications in automation, mechatronics, robotics, or electrical systems strongly preferred.
