We're looking for a seasoned Senior Engineering Manager to lead the development of our newest product offering, Quicken Business and Personal. This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable coaching engineers with a wide range of experience, leveraging technical leaders as well as developing engineers early in their careers. You will be required to manage a front-end app engineering team with competency in React JS technologies. In addition to handling people management responsibilities, you are expected to collaborate closely with stakeholders on project management, and to partner with the broader technical leadership team on web and mobile initiatives. Responsibilities

Mentor and manage a world-class team of web and mobile engineers:

Provide career growth paths through proper coaching, individual goal setting, 1-on-1s, performance appraisal, rewards, and recognition

Create a culture that motivates the team to excel by promoting ownership, empowerment, collaboration, innovation, and transparency

Be hands-on with coding when needed, whether to unblock the team, address critical issues, or demonstrate best practices

Directly manage the development and delivery of Quicken Business & Personal on web and mobile

Partner with Product Management, Product Design, and Quality to ensure the apps meet functional and visual requirements

Ensure the apps are of high quality and meet the non-functional requirements for performance, scalability, and security

Own the project management of the apps, working with stakeholders to align roadmaps, track resources and schedules, and proactively address gaps/escalations

Own the technical direction for the product, ensuring it aligns with the overall architecture and design of the web and mobile application platform

Manage the development process using Agile Scrum/Kanban and own the release plans, making trade-offs where needed

Provide visibility to leadership of the team’s priorities, handling team-related communications in established operating mechanisms

Ensure the engineers collaborate closely with their counterparts from the cloud services team for seamless integration of the apps with microservices

Partner closely with Engineering Management of Simplifi web and mobile on platform initiatives:

Jointly own the engineering platform roadmap to steer important technology decisions related to application architecture and design

Ensure the engineering team adheres to best practices (design for reuse, unit testing, etc.) and collaborates on technical insights and problem-solving techniques across the platform

Qualifications

7+ years of experience in the software industry, with 4-5 years minimum experience in engineering management

Proven experience as a technical leader with the ability to contribute to codebases when needed

Very strong people-management skills/instincts with a track record of leading high-performing engineering teams

Solid capabilities in engineering project management, particularly planning and execution

Strong technical proficiency in mobile development technologies preferred, proficiency in React Native/Redux is a plus.

Good understanding of cloud technologies such as microservices, Java, Spring Boot, and relational databases

Experience in developing customer-facing apps is desired

Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and driving towards clarity by partnering with stakeholders

Ability to handle dynamic situations, evaluate trade-offs, and balance short- vs long-term when making decisions

Strong experience partnering with Product Management to convert functional requirements to technical deliverables

Experienced in leading teams through Agile development processes such as Scrum and/or Kanban

Experience working with UX designers to build easy-to-use visual interfaces in web and/or mobile apps

Strong communication skills to work effectively at different levels of the organization

Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers at various levels

Experience with fintech domain would be a plus

BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent

Quicken is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The actual salary offered is determined by factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to years and depth of experience, relevant skills, and work location. This position's expected base pay range is $220,000 - $235,000.
