Optical Network Engineer

Role: Optical Network Engineer (Optical Network Deployment Engineer)

Location: Fremont, CA (Onsite – 4 Days/Week)

Job Description:

Client is seeking an experienced Optical Network Deployment Engineer to support backbone network capacity deployments. The role includes hands-on work with DWDM technologies, Ciena/Infinera platforms, routing/switching, and various network optimization and operations tasks. This position requires strong technical expertise and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Configure, deploy, and test new DWDM line systems (calibration, verification, BERT, etc.)

Commission Ciena and Infinera optical devices across PoPs and data centers

Install chassis, line cards, and structured fiber; perform firmware upgrades and device reboots

Conduct network optimizations (re-stripes, migrations, upgrades, capacity enhancements)

Create Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Job Start Notifications (JSNs)

Maintain and enhance technical documentation and deployment workflows

Troubleshoot network/tooling issues; perform root cause analysis

Drive operational stability and performance through continuous improvements.
