Job Title: Data Engineer
A top-tier financial services firm in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a Data Engineer to join their growing IT team. This is a full-time, permanent position with a hybrid schedule (2–3 days onsite per week). The firm manages a multibillion-dollar portfolio and has deep expertise in alternative strategies including hedge funds and private equity.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineer with a strong background in large-scale data handling, cloud-native environments, and scalable system design. This role will support the firm’s broader data strategy—improving pipelines, enabling governance, supporting integration, and preparing the data environment for technologies like GenAI.
You will work closely with software engineers, architects, data scientists, and business users to build, manage, and optimize data systems across the organization. This is a highly collaborative and visible role that offers the opportunity to drive measurable impact.
Key Responsibilities
Design and build scalable data solutions, including data models, data warehouses, and transformation pipelines
Define and implement data governance standards and practices
Collaborate with external data management partners and internal stakeholders
Lead the development of data ingestion and synchronization processes across internal and external platforms
Support the organization’s adoption of emerging technologies such as GenAI
Develop tools to automate data administration processes
Maintain documentation of data architecture and system configurations
Work within a scrum environment, participating in cross-functional planning, development, and deployment cycles
Tech Stack
Languages: Python (Django, Pandas, NumPy), PL/SQL
Databases: SQL Server, MySQL, Redis
Tools: Elastic Search, Kafka, Tableau, third-party APIs
Cloud: AWS (preferred)
Candidate Profile
At least 3+ years of experience in data engineering, architecture, or analytics roles within financial services (asset management, hedge funds, or broker/dealers preferred)
2+ years of hands-on Python development experience
Solid knowledge of SQL and relational/non-relational databases
Experience with cloud platforms and modern data stack tools
Strong grasp of data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data governance
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
