Technical Writer - Data & Architecture Documentation

Location: Phoenix, AZ - Hybrid (3 days onsite)

Duration: 24-month contract

Pay Rate: $50/hr W2

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, LTD Insurance

This is a W2-only opportunity. We are not able to consider Corp-to-Corp (C2C), 1099, or third-party arrangements.

Join our team as a Technical Writer where you'll transform complex data architecture concepts into clear, compelling documentation and executive presentations. This role combines technical writing expertise with visual storytelling to support critical data and analytics initiatives.

The Role

You'll work at the intersection of technology and communication, translating complex technical discussions into structured documentation and executive-ready presentations. Collaborating closely with data architects, engineering teams, and business stakeholders, you'll create visual artifacts that make sophisticated data concepts accessible to diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Create executive-facing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint tailored for non-technical stakeholders

Translate conceptual design discussions into structured documentation including data flow diagrams and architecture overviews

Develop Source-to-Target (S2T) mappings, process flows, and traceability logs from technical discussions

Document validation rules, data quality checks, control points, and business glossary elements

Build clear diagrams using tools like Gliffy to visualize complex data architectures

Maintain structured documentation for traceability and compliance in governed environments

Synthesize diverse inputs from technical teams to resolve ambiguity and create accurate documentation

Support governance initiatives through comprehensive documentation standards

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in technical writing, preferably in data architecture, analytics, or technology domains

Proven track record of translating complex technical discussions into clear visual and written artifacts

Strong expertise in creating executive-facing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint

Proficiency with diagramming tools, particularly Gliffy

Experience documenting validation rules, data quality processes, and control frameworks

Ability to work with rough notes or discussions to build clear and accurate documents

Understanding of documentation requirements in highly governed or audited environments

Core Competencies:

Excellent visual storytelling and presentation design skills

Ability to tailor content for non-technical stakeholders and summarize complex topics into key messages

Self-driven professional who can ask clarifying questions and work with limited supervision

Strong collaboration skills for working with data architects, engineering teams, and business stakeholders

Experience maintaining structured documentation for traceability and compliance purposes

Preferred Experience:

Comfort working with data concepts such as table structures, attributes, and SQL

Exposure to enterprise data platforms like BigQuery, Cornerstone, or other data warehouses

Familiarity with regulatory reporting environments including 2052a, Y-9C, or Basel frameworks

Experience in financial services or highly regulated industries
