BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Business Development – Naval Guns and Launcher products for our Combat Mission Systems (CMS) business. The Director will lead business and market development for the Naval Guns and Launcher products market. Grow market share and overall volume to diversify BAE Systems Weapons Systems portfolio.

Location/Schedule/Travel:

This will be a Remote/Onsite Hybrid role where you will work from home 2 days a week and go onsite or customer visits 3 days a week, mainly in the Falls Church, VA area

There will be around 50% of travel to Falls Church, VA site, corporate meetings/events, and customer sites

Responsibilities:

Serve as the overall Business Development lead for the Naval Guns product area focused on the US Navy customer set

Grow the opportunity pipeline, to include existing as well as adjacent markets/customers, through diligent and timely identification/qualification of new business opportunities by leveraging technologies, customer intimacies, and inter-company collaboration

Support the development and execution of strategic and tactical plans for the pursuit and successful capture of key opportunities to include future navy gun systems

Work with the product area leadership and advising them on leads and opportunities that might be pursued and the resources and possible changes required to do so

Identify and qualify new business development opportunities to improve the company's business portfolio

Obtain marketing intelligence and competitive data pertaining to potential targeted pursuits, and develop marketing strategies

Maintain close customer relationships, understanding their needs and shaping customer requirements

Assess competitor capabilities aligned to specific customers in assigned market space

Support capture efforts to include providing market, competitor, and customer intelligence, supporting color teams, and recommend resources to address gaps

Make informed recommendations on pursuit and bid decisions

Support the creation and execution of multi-year business development strategies

Inform internal investment planning as well as overhead budgets

Provide inputs to the WS US BD director to help develop and adjust the business strategy

Provide written and verbal reports through recurring mechanisms on the status of leads, opportunities, and capture efforts

Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of experience or equivalent experience

Active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one

Experience in Business Development in Defense, Government Contracting, or similar

Experience in Defense (DoD) Acquisition, including US Navy budget development and requirement setting processes

Knowledge of naval weapons and surface warfare to include technical knowledge, concept of operations, doctrine, and industry teams supporting modernization of capabilities

An understanding of U.S. Government export rules and regulations as stipulated by the Department of Commerce's Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the Department of State's International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); well-versed in the rules and regulations of Foreign Military Sales

Excellent networking skills with a proven ability to build successful, long-term customer relationships

Proven ability to operate effectively in ad hoc teams and groups

The ability to clearly and simply articulate compelling business opportunities both written and verbal; multi-lingual skills desired

Excellent communication (both oral and written) and listening skills, orientation to details, and the ability to make informed decisions

Superior research, analytical, and negotiating skills

A creative problem solver

Willingness to take ownership, accept accountability, and thrive under pressure
