Job Summary
The Accounting Analyst is responsible for processing, analyzing, assisting and/or leading in a variety of areas across the accounting department. The position will be a first line of defense to ensure that the company’s daily accounting functions run accurately and effectively while reflecting complete, accurate, and verifiable activity through various levels of tasks that include processing, data input, analyzing, and assisting. The Accounting Analyst may be involved in one or more of the functions or groups below. Each group is not all encompassing.
Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
Handle day-to-day accounting duties, which may include accounting for assigned business areas, such as benefits, loans, intangibles, revenue recognition, etc.
Make journal entries reflective of the business activities in a timely and accurate manner.
Assist in month-/quarter-/year-end close processes.
Trace & investigate transactions to resolve issues and take corrective action.
Data entry of expenditures for tracking and reconciliation purposes.
Review and manage daily bank activity including researching discrepancies and taking steps to make corrections.
Provide backup to other accounting processes while maintaining segregation of duties, as needed.
GL Reconciliations
Regular reconciliation of balance sheet and bank-controlled DDA accounts at the determined periods.
Monitor and address daily automated matching exceptions in reconciliation system.
Work with manager to optimize automated and non-automated matching routines.
True-up and adjust accruals, as needed, as well as actively work towards “total automation” goal for GL and bank-controlled DDA reconciliations.
Identify, gather, analyze, summarize, and escalate, as needed, reconciliation exceptions (including aged items) and works with appropriate parties to resolve them.
Insurance Support
Administer producer commissions, incentives, compensation, payroll and benefits.
Assist with insurance commission-related research, analysis projects and reporting needs.
FinTech Support
Partner with the Transaction Services and FinTech teams to ensure timely reconciliation and settlement of FinTech partner transaction activity.
Research and provide timely solutions to any transaction discrepancies impacting balance sheet or bank-controlled DDA accounts.
Collaborate with other departments (IT, Operations) in ongoing development and enhancement of FinTech processes.
Develop relationships with FinTech cohorts, as needed.
Controls
Contains knowledge of basic controls concepts.
Displays ownership of assigned controls by executing and/or documenting those controls in the determined timeframe(s).
Assist in development of internal control documentation including policies, procedures and other process support literature.
Projects, Reporting and Analysis
Develop ad-hoc reports on an as-needed basis.
Work with Finance/Accounting team members on ongoing report development and enhancements.
May act as project team member for various bank initiatives.
Research and analyze business problems and suggest ideas.
Assist in the implementation and ongoing monitoring, as needed, of new/updated regulatory standards.
Other General & Administrative
Assist in gathering information requested during internal and external audits.
Develops knowledge of bank, wealth, insurance, and fintech products and services.
Attend various meetings relating to and/or impacting Finance/Accounting.
Complies with policies and procedures.Requirements:
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field, or 4 years combination of education and/or experience in financial/bank operations.
1-3 years of related experience required.
