Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Job Summary:

The Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (CCAPP) is a member of the intensive care team whose primary responsibility is the management of complex, multi-organ critically ill patients in an intensive care setting. The CCAPP is under the direct supervision of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) supervising Intensivist

Deep understanding of critical care medicine and the management of complex conditions. The CCAPP must have established specialized skills and knowledge related to the ICU setting in which they practice and perform physical exams, collect and document data, conduct approved diagnostic, order and schedule laboratory studies, prescribe appropriate interventions, and need to be proficient in interpreting a wide range of diagnostic tests and be capable of performing critical procedures and provide direct patient care services in the ICU

Effectively communicate with patients and their families in high-stress situations and should also have collaborative abilities and work seamlessly within the critical care team. The CCAPP must be quick and effective at decision-making skills in life-threatening situations as well as being empathetic and emotionally supportive of patients and their families

Contribute to the collaborative patient care, to the research, teaching and consulting of patient care and provides leadership to Mercy Hospital (MH) and to the Physician Assistant (PA) & Nurse Practitioner (NP) profession Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Responsibilities:

Direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-organ trauma or diseases and / or failure according to the established MH protocols and utilizes evidence based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the ICU supervising Intensivists

Performs as the Team Leader during a Rapid Response, Cardiac Arrest Code, Stroke Code, Sepsis, Rapid Response, in the absence of a physician. (RRT Protocol & Policy located in Cross Functional)

Obtains patient history, physical examinations and documents findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings

Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.

Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedures to patients, patient's family, staff and healthcare students

Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures in the ICU and during an RRT based upon the patient's clinical status and documents the patient preparation and response to procedures in a procedural note

Formulates and implements treatment plans for acute illness management in collaboration with supervising Intensivist and / or attending physicians and documents in the patient's medical record appropriate narrative summaries.

Assess patients for change in status and initiates appropriate interventions, necessary emergency interventions to stabilize the patient

Provides family centered care by communicating with the family regarding the changing health care needs of the patient

Assess family coping skills and the need for crisis or other interventions.

Identifies education needs of the family and participates in the teaching opportunities

Utilizes current research and evidence based decision making in all clinical practice and incorporates clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care

Perform and participates in quality and performance improvement activities.

Participates in and supports accreditations, compliance and regulatory activities of MH

Participates in the development, review and evaluation of critical care medical management practice protocols within legal guidelines in compliance with MH policies.

Precepts physician assistant students and other new healthcare learners.

Performs as a role model of professionalism through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision making, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through and adhering to MH policies and participation in continuing medical education. Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Qualifications:

B.S. degree in accredited Physician Assistant Program or MSN in accredited Nurse Practitioner program

Current registration with NY Education Dept. as Physician Assistant. NCCPA Certification. ACLS, BLS, Infection Control Certificate

Two years Critical Care ICU experience required

NP's should have an Acute Care certification

Posted Salary Range

Starting from USD $100.00/Hr.
