SUMMARY:
The Interim Director of Information Technology is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the hospital’s IT infrastructure, strategic technology initiatives, and ensuring the integration of clinical and operational systems to improve patient care, streamline hospital operations, and enhance financial management. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position functions as the head of IT in the absence of a designated CIO, providing leadership for all IT operations, strategy, and governance. This role collaborates closely with the CNO to ensure that IT systems meet the needs of clinical staff and support high-quality patient care. Additionally, the role extends IT support and oversight to our outpatient ambulatory clinics and urgent care center, ensuring consistency and integration across the hospital’s care settings. The individual will oversee all IT functions and drive technology initiatives that align with the hospital’s goals of operational excellence, financial sustainability, and exceptional patient care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Serve as the primary IT leader for the hospital and its affiliated outpatient ambulatory clinics and urgent care center, managing all aspects of IT infrastructure, including system architecture, cybersecurity, EHR systems, and the integration of ERP and financial systems
Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy for the hospital, ambulatory clinics, and urgent care center in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives, ensuring technology investments support clinical and operational needs across all care settings.
Oversee the integration of clinical systems (e.g., EHR, clinical decision support) and operational systems (e.g., ERP, revenue cycle) to ensure seamless workflows across the hospital, outpatient clinics, and urgent care center.
Report directly to the CEO on IT strategy, system performance, and key initiatives, ensuring alignment with the hospital’s long-term business and operational goals.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) and industry best practices related to both IT and financial systems across the hospital and its outpatient service locations.
Lead the planning, implementation, and optimization of IT solutions for hospital operations, outpatient ambulatory clinics, and urgent care center, including EHR, ERP systems, financial management tools, and supply chain management systems.
Oversee hospital-wide and clinic-based IT operations, including system performance, network infrastructure, and data security, ensuring reliable and secure access to critical systems and data across all care settings.
Manage the hospital’s IT budget, allocate resources efficiently, and maintain relationships with IT vendors to ensure high-quality service and cost-effective solutions across the hospital and outpatient facilities.
Provide direct support and troubleshooting for both clinical and administrative systems at the hospital, ambulatory clinics, and urgent care center, ensuring operational continuity and user satisfaction.
Lead clinical informatics initiatives that enhance patient care, focusing on the use of health IT to improve nursing workflows, patient safety, and clinical decision-making.
Work closely with nursing leadership to ensure EHR systems, medication administration tools, and clinical decision support systems are optimized to support nursing practice
Analyze clinical workflows to identify areas for improvement, particularly through the use of IT systems, ensuring that systems are designed to minimize clinician burden, enhance patient care, and reduce errors.
Optimize nursing documentation tools and processes, incorporating evidence-based practices to enhance the quality and safety of patient care.
Drive initiatives to improve the usability of health IT systems, ensuring that technology enhances, rather than hinders, nursing practice and overall clinical care.
Oversee the management of the hospital’s ERP systems (including financial, HR, supply chain, and revenue cycle management systems) and ensure that these systems integrate with clinical and operational workflows across the hospital and outpatient services.
Collaborate with the CFO and finance team to optimize financial processes for both hospital and outpatient settings, including budgeting, forecasting, billing, and reimbursement.
Drive the implementation of automated financial systems and tools to streamline revenue cycle management, improve billing processes, and support financial decision-making across the organization.
Collaborate closely with the CEO, CNO, CFO and Department Leaders to ensure that IT systems and clinical workflows support staff and improve patient care across the hospital and outpatient clinics, enhancing the quality and efficiency of nursing operations.
Partner with the CNO to address nursing-specific IT challenges, such as optimizing EHR interfaces, reducing clinician burnout through system enhancements, and improving clinical documentation tools.
Provide support for clinical decision-making tools and informatics platforms that impact nursing workflows and patient safety, ensuring these systems are effectively utilized by nursing staff across all settings.
Lead the execution of large-scale IT projects, including system upgrades, integrations, and new technology rollouts, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and with minimal disruption to hospital operations and outpatient services.
Identify and evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., AI, online scheduling, telemedicine) that can enhance patient care, streamline operations, and improve financial performance across the hospital, clinics, and urgent care center.
Ensure the successful adoption and implementation of new IT systems, focusing on technology that optimizes both clinical and operational workflows across hospital, ambulatory clinic, and urgent care environments.
Leverage data analytics to drive improvements in hospital and outpatient clinic performance, focusing on both clinical and operational outcomes.
Use data from EHR, ERP, and financial systems to monitor performance metrics, track efficiency, and guide decision-making across departments and care settings.
Support quality improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance clinical and operational performance across the hospital and outpatient services through data-driven insights.
Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals, ensuring a high level of technical expertise and collaboration across IT and operational teams in the hospital, outpatient clinics, and urgent care center.
Build and sustain a skilled IT workforce by managing recruitment, retention, and professional development, ensuring staff are equipped to meet the evolving needs of a complex healthcare environment.
Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement by ensuring staff are trained on the latest technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (required).
Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems [CPHIMS], Project Management Professional [PMP], or similar) preferred.
Minimum of 5-10 years in IT leadership, with a focus on healthcare IT, including experience in managing both clinical and financial IT systems (EHR, ERP, financial systems).
Proven experience in driving technology strategy, implementing large-scale IT projects, and optimizing both clinical and business operations in both hospital and outpatient settings.
Experience working closely with senior leadership (e.g., CEO, CFO, CNO) to align IT initiatives with organizational strategy and goals.
In-depth knowledge of hospital operations, including revenue cycle management, supply chain, and financial processes, as well as outpatient clinic workflows.
Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance, and system integration.
Proven ability to manage enterprise-wide systems and ensure that IT solutions meet both clinical and business needs.
Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to drive cross-functional collaboration and influence decision-making at the highest levels.
Expertise in healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) and financial systems (e.g., billing, revenue cycle, supply chain management).
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
PAY RANGE:
$64.90 - $79.81 per hour
