Job Description
A CNC Machinist operates and programs milling machines to produce precision metal parts. To produce high-quality parts, the Machinist sets up machines, writes and test programs, and makes adjustments as needed including fabricating fixtures if one is not available. The Machinist inspects parts and completes quality checks as required. There are 2nd shift or split shift available (2pm to 10:30 and 10:30 to 7:00 pm)
Perform set up on CNC mill, such as: collect required tools, set stops, locate and indicate vises and fixtures, fabricate fixture if one is not available, "zero out" part and tools, install tools into carousel, input run data manually into machine and transfer data to a disk using a CMT or DNC unit or if program has already been made transfer data from disk to machine memory using the CMT or DNC unit, etc.
Using blueprints, program information, hand tools, etc.
Maintain file of program information and set up sheets, update revisions as required
Operate CNC mill: load material into fixtures or vises, clamp material down, machine material, such as: c'drill, drill, ream, tap, bore, mill, etc.
Inspect bored and reamed holes while running, make tool adjustments, unload parts and deburr.
Edit program information as required.
Load additional pallets while parts on first pallet are being machined.
Inspect parts with hole and depth micrometers, plug and thread gauges, calipers, surface plate, height gages, etc.
Complete quality checks as required
Collaborate with foreman and manufacturing engineers to verify and/or change shop routers to facilitate manufacture of parts
Assist engineering department by machining prototype parts and evaluate machinability of parts
Check and maintain oil levels, add coolant as needed, empty coolant drain pan, clean coolant filters, check chip conveyor operation, maintain area in a clean and orderly fashion, etc.
Use surface grinder to modify standard tools for specific parts and applications
Operate other machines, including CNC machines, as trained/required
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Extensive Machine shop knowledge
Capable of setting up and operating machine without assistance.
Capable of performing proven setups and first part inspections without assistance.
Knowledge to read, write and make edits to programs and procedures as required.
Has the ability to improve and implement changes on existing parts and processes.
Demonstrates key behaviors with little or no coaching or supervision.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment. Fulfill daily 5 S and required PM duties.
Capable of training other operators at the primary work center
Cooperate with team members and shares helpful information with others.
Constantly meets quality expectations with a low scrap rate- subject to review by team leaders based on quality issues within cell or per IRAD reports.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School Degree or Equivalent
Mazak CNC and/or equivalent experience.
Mill CNC or comparable experience a plus.
Minimum two years CNC lathe or milling experience or equivalent skills

Work Environment
Moderate to frequent exposure to shop environment; may be exposed to dust, odors, oils, fumes, chemicals, noise and moving parts. Work typically requires the usage of PPE and can require work on the facility’s production floor or customer’s production environment.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl and move about facility and/or customer’s facilities. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
