We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Mechanical Test Engineer to support mechanical and thermal validation efforts on Tesla's data center systems designed for AI workloads. You'll be a key contributor in identifying product characteristics, failure modes, driving discussions to root-cause issues, and recommending design improvements. Your work will directly support hardware validation and contribute to seeing the product through its full design lifecycle - from early development to production readiness.
Responsibilities
Design, build and execute test plans and custom test fixtures for mechanical and thermal validation, including vibration, liquid and air-cooling technologies
Lead and participate in FMEA activities and test planning. Collaborate with thermal, mechanical, electrical, reliability, test engineers, and project managers to develop and execute those plans
Use CAD and 3D modeling tools to design precise and efficient test fixtures
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on test strategies, resource planning, and reporting
Clearly communicate test plans, progress updates, and findings to all relevant stakeholders
Develop tools and processes to automate and accelerate testing workflows, and become a trusted expert whose opinion is sought after when difficult problems must be solved Requirements
Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Thermal Engineering, or equivalent experience
Demonstrated experience in mechanical or thermal testing, preferably in a product development or R&D environment
Proficiency in mechanical design and simulation software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, ANSYS etc.)
Strong fundamentals in mechanical design concepts, including structural mechanics, thermal management, and materials
Experience with standard lab and test equipment like power supplies DAQs, strain gauges, sensors, thermocouples, thermal imaging etc. Manufacturing experience is a strong plus
Strong hands-on skills in prototyping, fixture assembly, and debugging
Prior experience with basic thermal and fluidic components such as variety of hoses, pipes, O-rings, valves, quick-disconnects, fittings, pressure and flow sensors, etc.
Bonus: statistics, automation, data processing, object-oriented-programming, Python, Electrical CAD software (such as Altium & Eagle)

$80,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
