About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced Welding QA Inspector to support shipboard welding operations at NAS Mayport. This role is critical in ensuring top-tier quality and safety standards are met on high-profile U.S. Navy vessel repair projects.
This is not an entry-level position. We're specifically seeking someone with a strong welding background — ideally a former structural or pipe welder — who understands the standards of quality in a shipyard environment.
Compensation Options:
Local candidates: $38/hr
Non-local candidates: $32/hr + $160/day per diem
Responsibilities:
Perform in-process and final inspections of structural and pipe welds
Conduct NDT inspections (Visual Testing – VT Level II and Penetrant Testing – PT)
Develop and manage Test and Inspection Plans (TIP) according to NAVSEA and MIL-STDs
Monitor safety compliance and conduct jobsite audits
Certify and track welder qualifications
Maintain OQE (Objective Quality Evidence) documentation
Collaborate with customer QA and safety teams
Required Qualifications:
5–7 years of QA/NDT experience in a shipyard or naval repair setting
VT Level II and PT certification – must be current
Solid hands-on welding background – former structural or pipe welders preferred
Familiarity with NAVSEA standards and MIL-STDs (2035, 1689, 22D, NSTP-278, etc.)
Able to work in confined shipboard spaces and meet physical demands of the role
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Shipyard experience is non-negotiable
Preferred:
Bilingual – Spanish/English (highly beneficial for crew communication)
Prior experience managing inspection plans and QA documentation
Previous DBIDS access a major plus
Why This Role Stands Out:
Long-term, steady work on Navy vessels
Competitive pay and per diem for travelers
Opportunity to apply your welding expertise in a leadership-level QA role
Join a mission-critical team with a respected marine contractor
