Key Responsibilities

Design and Analysis: Create and analyze structural designs for buildings, bridges, and other structures using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Load Calculations: Calculate the pressures, stresses, and strains that structural components will encounter, ensuring they can withstand various loads and environmental conditions.

Collaboration: Work closely with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure that designs are functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing.

Site Inspections: Conduct on-site inspections during construction to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety regulations.

Problem Solving: Identify and address potential structural issues, providing solutions to enhance safety and durability.

Documentation: Prepare and review blueprints, plans, and specifications, ensuring they meet legal and safety standards.

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field is essential.

Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is typically required, which involves passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam.

Software Proficiency: Familiarity with industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SAP2000 is often required.

Skills Required

Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of physics, mathematics, and material science as applied to structural design.

Attention to Detail: Ability to identify potential issues in designs and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
