POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of this position is to provide excellent member service
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to sit, walk, kneel, reach, bend, push, pull and occasionally balance
Ability to climb stairs (depending on the facility)
Ability to use manual dexterity
Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment (depending on the facility)
Ability to use close and distant vision
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, parents, program participants and the general public and overall work effectively on a team
Ability to learn and use YMCA software programs
Ability to work as a team member and possess the core values that meet the YMCA mission
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information on children, family and YMCA staff
Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those fast-paced and subject to noise
Ability to concentrate and work under time constraints, even when distracted by noise and activity
Exposure to dust and occasionally to dirt, fumes and cold
Ability to listen and communicate (verbally) with members and staff effectively
Ability to alphabetize, read and write
Ability to prioritize, analyze, reason, solve problems, make sound judgment, draw conclusions, make decisions, negotiate, multi-task and plan
Ability to follow instructions, give directions/train others, lead/direct activities and occasionally supervise others
Must display attention to detail, accuracy, resourcefulness and adaptability.
Ability to observe and promote safety and security procedures
Ability to physically and mentally respond to emergencies and administer First Aid effectively
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide a safe environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.
Greet members with a smile and represent the YMCA’s four core values: respect, responsibility, honesty and caring.
Process program registrations, payments and credit requests for members and participants.
May assist with giving tours to prospective members.
May process memberships (paperwork and postings).
May create membership photo IDs and issue temporary cards as needed.
May make wellness and massage appointments.
Answer phone calls and give accurate information regarding the Center programs and/or membership.
Check opening and closing cash drawer for proper amount and denominations.
May balance funds and receipts after each shift.
Document any concerns voiced by members.
Keep brochure rack filled with schedules and other flyers.
Record accident reports, properly completing all required forms.
Aid staff and members during emergencies.
May check daily changes/updates. Check personal mailbox.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communicate with the Coordinator/Director of Administrative Services with computer concerns.
Attend all staff meetings and training associated with the Member Services Program.
Assist with other projects or activities as needed.
MEMBER INVOLVEMENT
Be informed and up-to-date on the latest developments in your field.
Understand, demonstrate and promote the Mission and Core Values of the YMCA.
Recommend and acquaint members with other YMCA programs and benefits.
Develop relationships that promote the building of small communities.
Support our annual campaign by inviting members to participate.
Be informed about volunteer opportunities and be able to articulate the role and importance of volunteers.
Provide an environment in which valuing diversity is encouraged and the 40 Developmental Assets can be built and emphasized.
EXPECTED RESULTS
The effectiveness of performance in this position can be judged by:
Providing efficient, friendly and accurate member/customer services.
Creation of a safe and nurturing environment for program participants, members, volunteers and staff.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least16 years of age
A high school diploma or its equivalent preferred
1 year related experience
Basic member service skills and telephone etiquette
Data entry skills and computer proficiency using standard word processing
Math and calculator proficiency
Knowledge of filing and basic office procedures and the ability to use the copier, fax machine
Obtain and maintain current certification in First Aid
Obtain and maintain required training (refer to YMCA Training Plan for position) and display all leadership competencies for Leader level (refer to YMCA Leadership Competency Mode
