THIS IS A PER DIEM POSITION THAT COVERS WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS/CALL OUTS, WORKING FROM 8AM-MIDNIGHT.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides services to Heritage Village in public safety emergency services, including preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation, and assists with completing reports, procedures, and plans related to these duties. Assists with coordinating the emergency operations center and performs administrative, training, and coordination tasks supporting the Public Safety & Emergency Services Manager. Competently uses various emergency equipment, vehicles, computers, and software programs necessary to complete assigned duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform a wide variety of duties required to efficiently operate a comprehensive emergency services and security program to assure the highest standards of protection of personnel and property at Heritage Village.
Perform patrols, inspections, and duties essential for protecting personnel property and enforcing Heritage Village policies and regulations.
Provide Emergency Medical Care as an EMT-B (First Responder) within the Geographical area of Heritage Village as Dispatched.
Provide Response to Fires, Fire Alarms, and other emergencies to mitigate loss of life and property when able.
Provide immediate assistance in fire, accident, or medical emergencies.
Use sound judgment and remain calm during high-stress incidents.
Monitor and report Safety Violations or issues throughout Heritage Village property.
Issue Warnings & Citations while enforcing Heritage Village Rules & Regulations.
Investigate and report suspicious incidents.
Secure and record evidence.
Interview witnesses and victims.
Direct traffic and maintain order at public gatherings.
Prepare accident, incident & medical reports.
Assist with criminal and civil issues or questions.
Provide support to local Police, Fire, and EMS agencies.
Ensure the readiness of the Emergency Response Vehicle, including equipment and supplies.
Assist in COVID Compliance throughout Heritage Village.
Assist in the Emergency Operations Center during its activation.
Maintain records of all emergency response operations.
Provide other related tasks as directed.
Qualifications
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of public safety, security enforcement, and emergency services
The officer should be highly attentive to irregularities and capable of sound judgment in difficult situations.
Officer should be able to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations.
Considerable ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
Considerable ability to recognize conditions of danger on roads, at building sites, and other areas and to initiate corrective action following established policies and procedures.
Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, co-workers, other departments, and various law and safety enforcement agencies.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Qualification
CT Firefighter I
HazMat Awareness/Operations
CT EMT-B (NREMT) At least 1-year experience preferred.
State of Connecticut Security Guard Card: At least 1-year experience preferred.
Candidates for this position must successfully pass a background investigation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid State of Connecticut driver’s license.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Motor vehicle, camera, telephone, computer, two-way radio, BLS Medical Equipment defibrillator, fire extinguisher, stretcher, all standard office equipment

Work is performed both in outdoor and indoor settings. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will frequently operate a motor vehicle to get to incident and accident scenes and to conduct patrol activities. Utilizes communications equipment and prepares reports. In doing so, the employee will reach with hands, arms, and fingers. The employee will frequently walk, sit, talk, and listen. Occasionally, the employee will climb, stoop, kneel, and crouch while conducting investigations. The employee may lift, carry, and move medically distressed people of various weights with or without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, Material Safety Data Sheets, and procedures manuals. This position requires the employee to be able to write standard reports and correspondence and speak effectively in on one and small group situations with residents and with other employees of the organization.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will work in outside weather conditions approximately fifty percent of the time but generally will have the shelter of a vehicle. Occasionally, the employee is exposed to wet, humid, cold, windy, and other adverse outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to moderately loud.
