Position: Discipline Lead - Geotechnical Engineering
Location: Oakland, CA Full-Time
Salary: $170-250k
A respected and forward-thinking geotechnical consulting firm in Oakland is seeking a Discipline Lead to guide and grow its geotechnical engineering practice. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to take on a leadership role in a collaborative, technically driven environment.
Position Overview:
As the Discipline Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing technical excellence, mentoring staff, managing complex projects, and contributing to strategic planning and business development. You'll work closely with senior leadership to shape the direction of the geotechnical group and ensure the delivery of high-quality, innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership and quality oversight on geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design.
Lead and manage multidisciplinary project teams from proposal through delivery.
Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers.
Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure project success.
Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client relationship management.
Support strategic planning and resource allocation within the geotechnical discipline.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in California required; GE license required.
15+ years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience, including leadership roles.
Proven track record of managing complex projects and teams.
Strong technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
Familiarity with regional geologic conditions and regulatory environment is a plus.
