On Line Design is looking for a motivated Systems Design Engineer with experience leading the mechanical design and deployment of large high temperature systems, including the integration of vessels, piping, instrumentation, heating, and structure. The focus of this role will be to develop production scale manufacturing systems using patented processes for creating battery cathodes and anodes.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is to lead full cycle mechanical design and construction of an industrial scale molten salt system to support the manufacture of high-volume manufacturing cathode and anode equipment. In this role, you will lead and support teams in designing custom manufacturing equipment using patented processes and scaling them to high-volume production.

Your familiarity with high temperature material systems design, mechanical design, systems integration, novel component development, and industrial or pilot scale system deployment is paramount.

Responsibilities

Lead the full cycle systems design including planning, equipment selection/design, and deployment of an industrial-scale molten salt facility

Help design, lead and coordinate the design including vessels and piping, instrumentation/sensor interfaces, fluid-mechanical equipment and components, and system structures

Develop detailed CAD models, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs to support design reviews, analysis, and fabrication of the molten salt system

Design or guides the design and selection of system components like pumps, valves, heaters, filters, and instruments with internal teams and outside vendors

Collaborates closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including manufacturing, process design, instrumentation & controls, and engineering testing

Oversee and coordinate component and system fabrication, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operation

Design mechanical systems and assemblies from concept to production using 3D CAD software.

Develop documentation to support the design and development process, such as design specifications, design decision documents, engineering testing/analysis documents and reports, and well as verification procedures.

Select major system components that satisfy design specifications while understanding tradeoffs and the overall impact to cost, availability, obsolescence, reliability, etc.

Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs in accordance with company guidelines

Maintain product quality through compliance with the company's ISO 9001 certification

Troubleshoot and lead root cause investigations and corrective actions in process related defects.

Lead and participate in design review presentations

Contribute to R&D efforts to facilitate ongoing product development

Produce detailed component and assembly drawings to be used in manufacturing and assembly

Provide support to production and troubleshoot technical issues

Train manufacturing personnel

Required Capabilities

Strong background in mechanical design of high temperature systems

Direct experience with advanced part and assembly modeling techniques using 3D CAD software

Strong experience with creating manufacturing and assembly drawings

Experience designing electro-mechanical devices and systems

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal

Understands safe design stresses in both static and cyclically loaded components

Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as it relates to structural loading

Strong documentation skills

Additional Requirements

Experience with Excel and PowerPoint, CAD software such as SolidWorks

Experience building process flow diagrams and process & instrumentation diagrams, as well as building mass-energy balances for processing plants. Working knowledge and experience with process simulation software is a plus

Strong and independent problem-solving skills. Experience with diagnosing issues using failure analysis techniques and recommending solutions

High temperature thermal processing/calcining systems experience

Understanding of the flow behavior and characteristics of molten salts as they relate to reliable handling system design
